Chadwell to Upper Aynho Grounds

Footpath map

Starting from opposite the Manor, this path travels north east, passing the path from The Church to Aynho, and meeting the B4100 road opposite the entrance to Upper Aynho Grounds.

The path starts at the stile just inside the drive to Park Lodge house.

Initially passing North alongside the garden wall.

Then turning right for a short distance before reaching a stile.

Views towards Aynho.

Stile entering the fields north of the houses along the High Street.

The path over open grassland is not distinct. The right of way bears slightly to the left, heading for a stile in the middle of the far side of the field but not visible due to the rise.

Head for the tree in the centre of the picture.

Approaching the stile at the end of the long field, to the right of the central tree.

Looking back along the path.

The dividing fence.

The path from The Souldern Church to Aynho passes along the edge of the field on the other side of the stile, so at this point you could turn right and return to Souldern via Church Lane. However the current path crosses straight over the field dropping down to a gated bridge in the trees ahead marking Ockley Brook and the parish boundary.

The footpath markers on the gate, with the path ahead following the green path up the hill behind.

Ockley Brook.

Looking back towards the stile. If walking the path from the opposite direction, you can bear left here to go to Souldern Church, Right to go to Aynho, or straight on towards the tree to follow this path.

Clear path up the hill towards the B4100 at Upper Aynho Grounds just beyond the trees.

The small gate on the left leads through this thin band of trees alongside the road.

Ending at a stile in the stone wall by this gate.

The path crosses the main road and becomes a bridleway using the surfaced drive to Upper Aynho Grounds.

Looking back from the drive of Upper Aynho Grounds. From this point, a bridleway (not in the collection of Souldern paths but paths described in these pages) leads to Upper Aynho Grounds and on to Croughton village from where you could return to Souldern via the bridleway from Croughton Mill. Or you could retrace your steps to the gate into the large field, and then return to Souldern via the path to Souldern Church.
