Croughton via Upper Aynho Grounds

Bridleway/Footpath map

This path is completely in Northamptonshire and so would not normally be included in this collection however it is included here as it connects the path to Upper Aynho Grounds with the path to Croughton and forms a safe way back to Souldern village. Walking along the B4100 from Upper Aynho Grounds in either direction; to Souldern or Aynho, cannot be recommended.

Starting from the B4100 directly opposite the end of the path to Upper Aynho Grounds the Bridleway follows the private road to Upper Aynho Grounds (“The Great Barn”).

The road towards Upper Aynho Grounds.

Approaching the buildings bear left, keeping the barns to your left and the main building to your right.

Immediately after the barn turn left and walk along a surfaced path following the edge of a wood to your left.

The path crosses a field then enters a wood.

The footpath drops down through the wood towards the stream.

Crossing the brook via a small footbridge.

After leaving the wood a clear path crosses the fields towards Croughton

After passing through a gate the path ends joining the path from Croughton Mill. You can turn left through this gate which leads to a clear path which emerges on the B4031, along which you could walk to Aynho and back to Souldern via the path to Souldern Church. But here we turn right towards Croughton.

The path follows the edge of the field with the buildings of Butchers Barn and Croughton Mill ahead.

Finally emerging via this gate on to Mill Lane Croughton.

Bridleway sign on Mill Lane. Turning right here gives direct access back on to the bridleway which may be followed as far as the Tusmore road or back to the B4100 as two routes back to Souldern.
